What is RSS Feed?

RSS, an abbreviation for Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication, is a format supported by most browsers that deliver fresh and changing content to you without you actually visiting the site. The content you can provide can range from simple documents, blogs, videos, or any other types of media.

How Do I Subscribe?

Normally, you will see an RSS icon that you can click on and subscribe to the feed. If you were to subscribe to Nick Avile’s RSS Feed, you would visit http://www.nickaviles.com/feed, or if you wanted to subscribe using FeedBurner, you would visit http://feeds.feedburner.com/nickaviles. You can then view the content using reading software such as Google Reader.

What’s the Catch?

What? Catch? There is no catch!.. Maybe just a small one. If you’re very active on reading someone’s RSS Feed it would probably be better for you to visit the website instead since the feed take up to 10 hours to actually update. But that’s probably the main downside to it. If you catch up on the Feed every few days, this is really nothing to worry about.

Can we develop our own reading website of RSS Feed? In this way, site will be updated automatically. :0

  2. Nick Aviles says:

If you want to develop your own RSS Feed reading website.. Go for it. But there are so many out there, I doubt many would choose some novice website over, say, Google Reader.
