Shared Servers vs Dedicated Servers

When it comes to web hosting, it’s very important to choose a very reliable hosting company. 99% up time is vital. Would visitors return to a site they can’t access? Average websites get crawled every few days, some may get crawled more, some less. If a Google crawler catches you at the bad time, you will suffer some ranking drops.

Which hosting company allows multiple domains?

If you’re running 1 or 2 websites and you currently have a decent host with good up time, you don’t need to switch. However, if you’re creating multiple niche blogs or stores, purchasing dozens of domains, I would highly suggest switching to hostgator, because it allows you to maintain an unlimited number of domains on the same server, and they maintain the up time of 99%, as I can say from experience.

What does that mean?

It means you don’t have to pay a monthly hosting fee for every domain you purchase. Host gator allows you to purchase any hosting package, and add as many domains as you wish. (Of course, you will need to purchase domains separately) Also, you can pay with PayPal for your hosting, and you only pay 1 cent your first month. That gives you time to cancel any time you want in case you’re dissatisfied.

How does that benefit you?

You will pay a fairly low monthly hosting fee. If you have 20 domain names, you can attach them all to your host gator account simply by updating your DNS nameservers. It’s done very easily, and you don’t need a hosting plan for each one of your domains. If you ask me, that’s a pretty good investment.

What if I start getting a lot of traffic?

If your websites start generating a substantially large amount of traffic, that means your server could potentially start lagging up at times, flashing a big red flag to your hosting provider’s admins. This could as well lead you to your account cancellation, because you’d be taking up too much resources. However, if you do receive a lot of traffic, that also means that you should be getting some income, thus providing you with the opportunity to get a dedicated server.

What is a dedicated server?

When you get a dedicated server, you will get your own IP address and your own server, as opposed to the shared servers where you share the IP address and the resources. A dedicated server means that your website is the only site that will use up the resources of that particular server.

Which dedicated server should I get?

I have come across an excellent dedicated server provider, serverpronto. They offer dedicated servers for as low as $30 a month plus installation fee, although that’s the cheapest package. However, they give you the options to customize your server the way you want it, which is an excellent choice for any website receiving substantially high traffic.
