I am not an SEO expert but we have number of e commerce website that are doing well that i built up over the last 4 years.
As far as i was aware, in terms of what other people are writing in regards to 'No Follow' text links, Text Links based around a 'no follow' format were always a waste of time. ( and a waste of money, if you paid for these type of links ).
I spend a large amount of money on Google Adwords every month and this definitely makes a healthy profit but the costs are high.
For the SEO, i also spend very good money on on site articles writing and link building and this also pay good dividends. For the link building part of the SEO, we always aim to buy good quality text links and the results have been very positive.
We rank in the top 5 listings for Google Organic search results for 6 of our top keywords and on the first page for our top 15 keywords but we do not have any No1 Google Organic Listings . Most of the sites we buy links from are between PR 4 and PR7.
We currently do not have any PR8 text links.
We have 1 PR9 text link which is a 'no follow' text link and for this particular keyword, we rank No1 in Google Organic listing for our geographic location.
We rank No2 for Google.com but we only sell in our country as the goods we sell are too big and bulky and international shipping is normally too expensive for our foreign clients.

I was offered a text link on the PR9 site only if i was prepared to pay for 1 year in advance and no guarantees on what type of link it would be. I took a big gamble and paid out US$10,000.
I was hoping that the text link would be a 'do follow' link but unfortunately it turned out to be a 'no follow' link and i was very very disappointed at the time.
I called the link agent and he told gave me the usual sob story and said that there was nothing he could do, bla bla bla.
This was 2 years ago. Today i am still there and still No1 for this highly searched keyword.
I am a business man and not an SEO expert, and my advice is if you can afford it then don't always listen to the so called self proclaimed SEO experts and take a business gamble if you have a good feeling about something. Most SEO guys mean well but they don't know you or your business as well as you do, and sometimes you need to go for it regardless of their advice.
Stay away from Adult, Gambling and Pharmaceutical links to your site if you are not in this industry, or you will damage your business potential.

Thanks for the input Krystle, although in my honest opinion I do think Google still counts the nofollow backlinks towards ranking since they know spammers won't be looking for nofollow backlinks. At same time the non spammers get a little bit of credit as well. That's my theory at least. No one knows for sure.

Adding links to wikiHow won't help your PageRank. Most wikis use "nofollow" links so that search engines won't index the links. This is done to keep spamming at bay. You can still contribute and link back to your site, but it'll only do you good if people click on the link. Plus, you need to follow these guidelines on wikiHow, or else your account can get blocked and your URL put on the spam blacklist:

I am testing this software as part of the strategy I teach on my site. It has it's value as posting backlinks through Blogger with PLR Articles cancreate an avalanche of traffic for your Money sites/ blogs.
