Thinking of methods for selling that old, dirty house and sucker in a few extra dollars? Put down the power tools and forget the old, ambitious renovation methods of the past. A much smarter idea has been leaked by real estate agent Zack Sudler who discovered that putting junk into the storage locker and fixing the wobbly ceiling fan could as well be the key to success. Here’s exactly how.

Having deep and sophisticated understanding of real estate business, Sudler reveals that Realtors would put in more work for a slightly cleaner, better looking, and a more expensive house. In addition, Sudler recommends repainting any rooms that have overtly bright colors, including any outdated colors. (See our outdated colors chart for more information on the latest outdated colors)

Similar to Sudler’s studies, various researches concluded that renovating your home is “rarely worth the time and efforts”. Additional studies have shown that while installing a new kitchen cabinet or central air conditioning remote control may improve the seller’s lifestyle, the buyers are still not convinced and are still not willing to pay the ripoff price.

Chief executive of San Francisco, Patrick Lashinsky, exhibit clear and defined dislike towards sellers that have “contractors still toiling away when the open houses start”. “It’s a nightmare”, Patrick says, as he exhibits clear distaste towards moderately dusty environments.

The National Association of Realtors conducts an anal annual survey of its members in 80 cities that is created by Remodeling magazine and used to estimate the return on investment for 33 home improvement projects. The 2009 report concluded that, on average, “it ain’t worth shit”.

Even projects normally hyped as sure bets for adding value generate surprisingly weak gains, NAR reports. Converting an attic into a bedroom, or a bathroom into a walk in closet, for example, is typically regarded as garnering interest among potential buyers who might have otherwise disqualified the home from their search. An extra bedroom and a closet will indeed add value–just not for the majority of people who spend on the conversion. Later, NAR concluded that this kind of investment is “almost as bad as investing into the new iPad”.

Product Site: www.backlinkstream.com
Product Rating: 4.8/5.0 (excellent)

BacklinkStream PRO is an interesting new backlink building tool that I haven’t come across before. After I purchased my copy, I decided to jump into the testing right away. The download link was promptly delivered to my email. The script was lightweight (I hate oversized & complex software) and I was pleased with the theme. Installation was fairly simple, although you can have a technician install it for a small fee.

The product comes with an installation guide as well as a usage guide. It’s very visual and simple to understand. I was surprised with the efficiency and speed of the script. I did a test about a week ago on a fresh free blog I made, after several hours of running a single engine I stopped and decided to see what happens after a while. At the moment (roughly a week later), the blog is at 5,052 backlinks, and the first 100 contain page rank 1, 2, 3, 4, and even several pagerank 5 backlinks. I’m not surprised if next PR update the page will be PR3 or 4, although I’m going to have to wait and see.

Overall, I was pleased with the efficiency of the product, and of course, it does its job VERY well (the backlink building job). I wouldn’t use it on the main site, but you don’t have to. The system teaches you nicely how exactly it’s done, and the product definitely delivers what it promises.

I’ll give the product a 4.8/5.0, and I’m sure you guys will love it.

Google Custom Search is a great feature that not only lets your visitors search your site for specific content they’re looking for, but also makes you a little bit of cash from advertiser clicks. Here’s an example of what a Google Custom Search text box may look like.

Installing Google Custom Search is quite simple, really. For starters, log into your AdSense account and navigate to AdSense Setup. Next, you’re going to select AdSense for Search.

You’re going to be brought to a 3 step creation process where you’re going to be asked to define how you want your search box to appear, which sites the search extends to, and how your results are going to look.

Step 1 – Search Type

As for Search Type, I do not recommend selecting the entire web since you don’t really want people to leave your site and navigate to someone else’s page. After all, it’s not like you’re getting paid to do that – so don’t turn it on!

In the Selected sites box simply type in your domain name to enable your domain results to be displayed.

Optional keywords I do recommend, although not that important if your website isn’t quite niche-based.

Step 2 – Search Box Options

For the look and feel it’s really up to you, I like having a watermark on my search box because it gets rid of that additional logo. But really, whatever looks better in your case is what you should go for.

The length of the textbox is also up to you, depending on where you’re placing it. Make sure it looks nicely and fits with your theme.

Step 3 – Search Results Options

For the Opening of the search results page I would recommend opening results within your own domain.

Set your search result colors similar to those of your theme for higher chances of receiving ad clicks. When you’re done picking your colors, go to the next step to save the channel and get your code. Write the code down as you will need to implement it into your website and I’ll show below how.

You will get 2 pieces of code. First piece is the search box code, the second piece is the results code. I will explain how to implement Google custom search in WordPress, but similar techniques can be used for traditional websites too.

How to Implement Google Search Box

Although you could try using a plugin to give you the same effect, personally, I like more flexibility and edit my files directly. First, navigate to your WordPress admin panel, hit “Appearance > Editor” to locate which file your current search box is located in. When you find the code, simply replace the form with the code Google provided you and save the file. If you need any additional adjustments, simply modify the code and add/remove any style options you want.

How to Implement Google Results

Quite simple actually. Navigate to your WordPress admin panel, hit Pages > Add New and create page called “Search” or the like. Then, hit HTML view and paste the second part of the code that Google provided.

Now, whenever someone searches for anything it will display the search results along with advertisements on your page. The great part about it is that it only searches the pages that are on your site, but the bad part is that it doesn’t search the pages that weren’t crawled and indexed yet, which could be an issue for newer sites. But overall, most of my posts get crawled and indexed within 3-5 minutes so it shouldn’t be a huge problem.

Looking to start making money with Clickbank but need a solid tutorial guide to help you get started? No problem. This guide will teach you what Clickbank is, how it works, and how you can use the program to make money online.

Clickbank is a marketplace that connects affiliates and vendors together in order to promote digital products (in most cases eBooks). This method has been used by many great affiliate marketers that earned as much as thousands of dollars a week. Although the market has become saturated, it’s still possible to make money with Clickbank if you do your homework.

Where do Clickbank Products Come From?

Clickbank products come from vendors, regular people like you and me, that have a digital products of their own to sell. Those vendors have to create a good “pitch page” for the product, mark the price of the product, and decide how much they’re willing to pay for affiliates to promote that product. (Usually between 50-75%)

If you sell a product, you’re a vendor, if you promote that product, you’re an affiliate. You can register your affiliate account absolutely free and start promoting Clickbank products instantly.

How Do I Place Clickbank Products on My Site?

During the account registration process you will select a short nickname that you’ll use when promoting various products. Once your registration is complete, confirm and login to your Clickbank account and navigate to the marketplace area to start browsing.

Select from dozens of categories and sub categories of products that are relevant to your niche. I recommend filtering your products by gravity (which ultimately means how many sales a week that product gets), but even as you do, don’t depend on that alone. Go through the list of products similar to what you’re looking for a preview the pitch pages thoroughly before promoting that particular product. After all, you want to know what you’re promoting and if the sales page looks like it’s going to convert, right?

To place the product on your site you will need to get the affiliate link for it first. Find the product you wish to promote and click the “Promote” button. Enter your account nickname with the optional tracking code to create your special affiliate link that you will use. When someone clicks that link and purchases the product, you will get commissions for it. Simple enough?

Which Clickbank Products Should I Avoid?

I have a few problem with some Clickbank products. If the pitch page theme and layout looks crappy it probably does not get many conversions, so avoid those. Also, a little secret you should know is avoid sales pages that offer “free gift” to visitors to enter their name and email which could potentially draw them away from the sales page product and make them focus on the “gift” instead.

The owner of the product will get their email address FREE (because you referred them) and send more followup emails trying to convince them to buy the product while trying to potentially gain the full price for it. When they purchase it later, your cookie might be gone or overwritten so you may not always get the sales.

Also, that same person could have visited the sales page on his work computer, and made the purchase later from his home computer. When that happens, you do not get referral commissions. If the person visited the sales page in Firefox but purchased it using IE7 or IE8, you do not get commissions either.

But if 93% of sales are referral sales, they must be paying out to referrals a lot!

You could argue that, but you can’t be sure that they’re paying those commissions out to the referrals that deserve it? Once vendors get someone to sign up for the free gift, many visitors are likely to leave the sales page. That means the visitor didn’t even really finish reading the sales page because he or she got distracted.

Once they leave they’re gone and the only way to get them back is to send them a followup email, if you captured it. But you don’t have their email now, do you? The problem with this method is, if the user decides not to purchase the product and leaves, you wasted your attempt. This gives the vendor another chance to get a free sale based on your work and you simply waste your money and traffic to boost your vendor’s commissions.

In short, a secret you should know, don’t sign up with vendors that have distracting “free gift” lead capture forms. Instead, avoid those types of vendors altogether (especially the ones that require people to input their email). Those just create distractions in an attempt to lead them away from purchasing under your referral and giving the sale to the vendor at a later time.

So how can you take advantage and put your money and time to a better use? Do exactly what those vendors are doing. Capture email leads because it works so well

Set up an email capture box or an instant popup on your website to start capturing email leads. Then send out followup emails that will ultimately redirect your customer list to affiliate products. If they don’t purchase your product right away, they might purchase it later. This is one of the most powerful things of email marketing and it’s simply the key to success.

Aweber is the best and also the most popular email marketing solution that lets you capture emails using an instant popup or nice looking forms without any coding. Create multiple lists and deliver followup emails automatically. Keep track of subscribers, unsubscribers, and conversions with nice reporting statistics.

Email marketing is the key to affiliate marketing, and having the best email marketing tools is vital for your success. Free alternatives don’t offer nice themes and professional service, so if you’re running a business, get the best tools. Business is an investment, and this is the best investment you could ever make for $1.

Don’t underestimate the power of email marketing. Most successful online marketers will say that the majority of their revenue comes from email marketing.

When you first register your domain, you, or someone else, may have linked (or pinged) to your website using WWW, and other times using no WWW. So how is that a problem? The first type (www or no www) that Google crawls is the one that’s going to be the initial result. This may cause duplicate content, as well as other problems in the future.

For example, your domain is listed in Google as domain.com, whereas you’re trying to force www to make it appear as www.domain.com. Say you update your htaccess file and create a 301 redirect to force www. Next time Google crawls your site, it goes, “Hey, I can’t find this page anymore since I’m being forced to visit the one with WWW”. Google will then drop your rankings of your old site and remove your non WWW results completely.

During this period of time, you may get pretty sad as Google may sandbox you and drop your rankings pretty badly until your newly crawled pages with forced WWW get indexed and ready to go. This process may take anywhere from 1 week to 1 month. You can never really tell with Google, but nothing’s instant and dropped rankings are things you’ll experience and are definitely not unusual.

But no worries, it’s nothing to contact Google about just give it some time and things should be back to normal.

Some people have a misunderstanding of Google pagerank update process. So you’re building backlinks, and it seems that you’re getting hundreds, even thousands of a mixture of dofollow and nofollow backlinks but your pagerank number seems to stay the same. This is because Google updates the pagerank only once every 2-3 months, (also called pagerank export) regardless how many backlinks you build.

What that means is that, if your website has 1000 backlinks but has a pagerank of N/A or 0, that means you probably have PR1 or PR2 but your number just hasn’t been updated yet. Google does it this way to prevent spammers exploiting them too much. Nevertheless, pagerank doesn’t mean traffic, so focusing mainly on pagerank and nothing else is probably not a very good idea.

You can rank your site very well basing only on keywords alone. Pagerank is just an additional factor that should build naturally as you provide useful information from your site that makes other people link to you. Other than that, backlink building is kind of a waste of time in my personal opinion. Spammers may get quick ranking boost but soon get sandboxed for a loooong time. Google keeps track of the natural flow of backlinks, so if you’re going to spam, you better spam at a consistent rate nonstop, or else Google will kick your ass.

Many theories suggest that nofollow backlinks are worth nothing. Sure, it’s safe to say that the value of nofollow backlinks was reduced below ground level… at first. But could this be changing?

First of all, let’s talk about what exactly nofollow backlinks are. Nofollow backlinks are links pointing from one page to another with an additional attribute called “rel”. If this attribute is appointed by “nofollow” this tells the Google crawler not to follow this page, and thus, not to count it towards its ranking. It’s another way of saying “Don’t give this page any juice from my page”.

But Do Nofollow Backlinks Count For Nothing?

Many can argue that nofollow backlinks are worth nothing. The initial intention of Google is to give webmasters a little control over spammers. Giving webmasters the ability to set the nofollow attribute gave more flexibility and control over who got juice from site owner’s pages and who didn’t.

Did it work?

For the most part, it got rid of a lot of spammer backlinks from many sites. But at the same time, a lot of honest people who are gaining backlinks manually and honestly (not necessarily grinding for backlinks) still take the fall because most webmasters don’t allow dofollow links altogether. Spamming didn’t stop. Spammers find other ways to automatically generate dofollow backlinks and Google can’t really do much about it because anything Google does against spammers will ultimately affect the honest site owner as well.

So, Do Nofollow Backlinks Count?

Google and most people will tell you there’s no point building nofollow backlinks because they don’t add any value or help you rank. However, I think it’s actually beneficial to build nofollow backlinks because not only it looks more natural, but I think Google is slowly lifting the ban on nofollow backlinks and still gives a little juice.

But that’s just my opinion, don’t take my word for it.

PageRank export occurs around every 3 months when Google updates its index data such as backlinks, PageRank, and directory data. Google made the change because of “B.O.” (backlink obsession) so now you will see an update every 3 months for an already implemented factors such as backlinks and PageRank.

Does that mean PageRank export is nothing other than updating the “visibility” on the data that’s already been implemented for months prior? That’s exactly it. Google doesn’t do continuous update on backlinks and PageRank anymore, although they do implement those factors in as soon as Google crawls them. So what that means is, whenever Google updates, there is actually absolutely no change in Google’s ranking positions because that change has already been implemented in the months prior, just hasn’t been shown.
